Trip Highlights:
Ground Zero (Broadway and Fulton St) We will make a stop at the former site of the World Trade Center and visit St. Paul’s Chapel across the street. This is site never gets old not matter how many times you visit because you always experience a different emotion when you walk through the doors. We may try to see the Trinity Church too. We will not visit the Ground Zero Museum this year.
St. Paul's Church
Canal St We will make a brief stop on one of the most FAMOUS shopping areas in the world. Known for its open side walk shops and its “fake” designer merchandise – Canal St will promise to be a fun stop.
Canal St
Empire State Building (350 5th Ave) At this point in the day we have all stayed together and there has been a little free time. We will all walk thru the Empire State Building – I do not go to the observatory. The Teens are welcome to do so but the lines are LONG. Empire State Building
Bryant Park (behind the New York Public Library in midtown Manhattan, between 40th and 42nd Streets & Fifth and Sixth Avenues) I have found this to be a much more affordable and less hectic place to go skating when compared to Rockefeller Center. It also provides plenty of shopping and lunch opportunities. Bryant Park
At this point we will take any interested teens to the Ellen Stardust Diner (1650 BROADWAY, CORNER OF 51ST STREET)
Ellen Stardust Diner it is an AWESOME eating experience and well worth the wait.
Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, NBC Studios, Time Square
We will conclude our trip in this part of the city and spend the next 3 – 4 hours here. This is a VERY busy area and we will make an effort to stay together, however, we may get separated. We will have a MEETING TIME at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, where we will walk around and then share in a brief prayer.

On Friday Night, December 3rd we will join over 400 teens and young adults in a wonderful night of praise, worship and adoration in Boston at the Cathedral.
he God of this City Tour is a collaborative effort between the Office for the New Evangelization of Youth and Young Adults (ONE) in the Archdiocese of Boston and LIFT Ministries. Each night will feature a time of praise & worship led by Jon Niven followed by a speaker sharing on an Advent related theme. The nights will each culminate with a time of Eucharistic Adoration featuring moments of silence and some music followed by more praise & worship. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available each night as well. The tour is FREE to attend and open to ALL AGES. Come join us for a powerful night of prayer where we will encounter the living Lord in His Word and in the Eucharist!
Click here for the website
What's it all about?
The God of this City Tour flows from a belief that young people (youth and young adults) are “a special gift” who have the power to change and shape the future (Novo Millennio Inuente, 9). The gift that they are, and the gift that they bring to the life of the Church is desperately needed today! Our dream for this tour is to invite God’s people into a passionate encounter with Jesus Christ, the Word of God, the Bread of Life, by rallying our parishes to come out in support of our young people. There is great power in prayer, and we hope that this gathering will not only empower our young people with the love of Jesus Christ, but that all of us will be renewed and inspired to live more intentionally our call to be witnesses to that love.
Pope John Paul II stated that our Christian communities “must become genuine ‘schools’ of prayer, where the meeting with Christ is expressed not just in imploring help but also in thanksgiving, praise, adoration, contemplation, listening and ardent devotion, until the heart truly ‘falls in love’” (NMI, 33). We believe that LIFT’s monthly format of praise and worship, dynamic preaching, Eucharistic Adoration, Confession and fellowship, create an environment where hearts can be healed and renewed by the love of Jesus Christ.
In the thirty-seventh chapter of the Book of the Prophet Ezekiel, the prophet is taken up in the Spirit to a valley of dry bones. The dry bones represent the house of Israel, who had lost hope in the Lord and His promises to them. The Lord instructed Ezekiel to prophesy to the dry bones, that the breath of the Lord will enter them and bring them back to life. It is our prayer that this tour, as it travels throughout the five regions of the Archdiocese, will be a prophetic sign that the Church is alive in her young people, and will breathe forth renewed hope and love in the Lord Jesus, and in our call to mentor young people in the faith.
We are excited that this tour will culminate on Friday December 3rd at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, the mother Church of the Archdiocese, with Cardinal Seán as our speaker. We hope to fill the Cathedral and raise the ceiling with our prayers and praises to the Lord.
The tour will take place during the first week of Advent, and our prayers will be united with the Church’s universal prayer for the Lord to come and reign among us, for He is our God, and the God of this City!

The Youth Choir sounds great and Fr. Jim, as always, was inspiring and thoughtful.

On the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the dedication of the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy, the Holy Father, through the Apostolic Penitentiary, grants, under the usual conditions of Sacramental Confession, reception of Holy Communion, and prayers for the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff, a Plenary Indulgence, applicable also to souls detained in Purgatory, to the faithful who, excluding every attachment to whatever sin, come to the Shrine on pilgrimage, and there devoutly assist at any sacred function, or at least spend a suitable space of time in pious reflection, ending with the Lord's Prayer, the Creed and invocations of the Merciful Jesus and of the Blessed Virgin Mary:
a. from January 1 to December 31, 2010, the opening and closing of the Jubilee;
b. at all jubilee celebrations;
c. as often as out of devotion they come there in pilgrimage as groups;
d. once, on a day freely chosen by the faithful.
Pious faithful, impeded for reasons of old age, illness or any other serious cause, can also obtain a Plenary Indulgence, if, determined to detest whatever sin, and having the intention of fulfilling, as soon as it will be possible, the three usual conditions, they will spiritually unite themselves to the jubilee celebrations or pilgrimages, offering their prayers and sufferings to God the Merciful through Mary before any small image of Jesus.
These present are valid for the entire time of the jubilee. Nothing to the contrary withstanding.
James Francis Stafford, Cardinal of the Holy Roman Church, Major Penitentiary
To receive the Plenary Indulgence one must:
1. Make a pilgrimage to the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy during the Golden Jubilee year (Jan 1, 2010- December 31, 2010)
2. Make a Sacramental Confession
3. Receive Holy Communion
4. Pray for the intentions of the Pope.
5. Detachment from sin
Those who cannot make a pilgrimage to the National Shrine due to old age, serious illness or other serious cause may venerate the image of Jesus, The Divine Mercy. They must fulfill the other conditions as listed or at least have the intention to fulfill as soon as it is possible.

Deep in "The Woods" of Nashoba Valley, a dark secret awakes.
For centuries, a coven of witches met secretly each October to practice their magic.
Their sacred task was to guard an ancient "gateway" which held back the spirits of the dead.
The witches are outnumbered, hiding in the woods, wary of an evil presence that has grown too strong.
The Supernatural Creatures, finally free to roam the woods in search of prey, fly into the night!
Will you enter the woods? Will you face the unknown with courage, cover your face in fear, or scream uncontrollably?

All students in Grades 9-12 are invited to attend the High School Youth Convention on Sunday, October 25th at Bishop Stang High School in Dartmouth. After evaluating last year’s convention, they have changed the format. Instead of various workshops for youth to select from, teens will have the chance to participate in TWO keynote sessions with Steve. Following his first keynote, participants will be asked to attend a guided discussion session. The fee for the High School Convention is $20 per person and includes a choice of boxed lunch.
It was a lot of FUN last year. Please let me know if you are interested...if I get 5 people we will go!

Holy Cross Church is pleased to announce that the Comprehensive Youth Ministry Program implemented last year will continue under the direction of John Barata for the upcoming year. John's roles is simple - "to help teens deepen their relationship with Christ in today's world using today's vehicles of communication". This will include Social Events, Faith formation nights, Service programs, Retreat and much more.
Below is a quote that John wants all the teens to read, think and pray about. This was the HOLY FATHERS call to us - as children of Christ.
"Young people of America and the World, listen to what Christ the redeemer, is saying to you."
- Pope John Paul II
And as John Barata always says "I LOVE YOU, GOD LOVES YOU, PASS IT ON"

Pope John Paul II has called the Church to “cultivate a lively awareness of Christ's real presence, both in the celebration of Mass and in the worship of the Eucharist outside Mass.” LIFT has been born out of a desire to live out that call and marry it with contemporary trends in modern worship.
LIFT is a monthly worship gathering on a Tuesday night in the metropolitan Boston area. LIFT uses modern elements such as professional lighting and sound, video screens displaying worship imagery and song lyrics, creative environments and the latest in contemporary praise and worship music performed by a live band to enhance the worship experience. The basic format of a LIFT night starts with upbeat praise and worship music followed by an inspirational talk given by a dynamic speaker speaking on that night’s theme. The night culminates with a time of Eucharistic Adoration enhanced by more praise and worship music.
Worship is all about heaven. When we come to worship, we join with the angels and the saints around the heavenly throne in praise to our God. Worship is what we were created to do. When we worship we are simply partaking in what we will be doing for eternity in heaven. The things that make up LIFT – from the music to the environment to the speakers, etc – are all designed to help the worshipper enter into the presence of God and experience a taste of heaven.
"LIFT Your eyes and look to the heavens..."
Isaiah 40:26
